I use a number of approaches when providing services to children and their families

  • Evidence-Based

I use evidence-based practice. This means when making decisions I integrate:

    • Scientific knowledge (research evidence)

    • My clinical experience and expertise (from working with families in the past)

    • The child/family’s individual circumstances (preferences, values and resources available) and

    • The practice setting (professional training, resources, work setting, funding).

  • Family-Centred

I use a family-centred approach. This means I believe each family is unique with unique circumstances and I partner with you to design a flexible intervention that best fits with your family needs.

I believe parents are the experts when it comes to their children. I include parents in the intervention process and also ensure parents are supported and skilled. I believe children can achieve their best when they feel loved, understood and supported by their family.

  • Play-Based & Strengths Focused

I believe in using play to help children develop their social, cognitive and fine and gross motor skills because play is motivating and fun for children. Play is also the natural context children develop these skills.

I believe all children have strengths and when these are used in therapy, it helps children persist to engage in and try things they find more difficult - this helps them develop new skills. I provide intervention in the everyday settings children experience difficulty such as their home or school (rather than in a clinic).
